If you are able to change your trip to a day trip, I would advise you to do that instead. I would not be okay with my girlfriend traveling alone on a night train. I am not saying that something bad will definitely happen, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
How are public displays of affection seen in India? Is it rude to hug or kiss in public for example? I certainly wouldn't want to offend anyone, but it would be good to know.

I have never heard of Masala Chai and it really sounds interesting and delicious. I have never tried adding any spices to my tea; except for cinnamon and I really love the taste.

I am not sure, but I think you mean samosas. Were they fried? If they are fried, then thy are called samosas. They can be stuffed with different things as far as I know.
I think geckos are some of the cutest species in the lizard family. Are they really poisonous? When I visited South East Asia, they were everywhere, but I have never had any problems with them. I think I wouldn't mind having a couple of geckos in my room if they are going to get rid of mosquitoes :)
The first thing that comes to my mind when hear India or think about India is beauty. Then I start thinking about food, culture and so many other things.
I think that even if you join an organized tour, chances are you won't enjoy it as much because you don't know the people that well. I would rather have a group of friends and travel together.
