The road conditions are awful, the road by the small river is even worse and because of the bad road conditions you have drive slow, so the if you plan to come back on the same day it does get tiring, it is recommended that you ether hire a driver or make a stop over at Haridwar.

I have been on both the Shimla toy train and Ooty toy train, and there is no difference in the trains and surroundings are a bit similar too as both of the locations are in the hills.

Don't forget to visit to lesser known places around the main destinations like Shimla. Have a look at the thread on lesser known destinations in North India, this thread mentions a lot of places in Himachal Pradesh.

Love this information on the south of India beaches, very surprised to see the Muttom beach picture, it looks like a scene from outside of India. Is there anything else in that particular area to see as well apart from the beach. Hope I will be able to visit this place one day.
