What is the most amazing and unique item you bought in India?

I have not gone to India yet unfortunately. Hopefully, that will change very soon! My mother went in her younger years. She brought back a beautifully ornate elephant ashtray that I have coveted ever since I first saw it as a child. Then ignorant, of course, of it's purpose, but enamored of it...

    Understanding Camping In India

The rules are pretty simple. Camp wherever you want, as long as you aren't on anyone's land. Prepare to rough it. Make sure you are not camping somewhere with any serious wildlife risks. And finally, sleep with mosquito nets around your person. You will not regret it. Have fun!

    Mosquitoes?

Mosquito nets are a must. A friend of mine went on a three day trek in a national park and came down with what appeared to be malarial symptoms. He was never sure as he recovered by the time they reached a clinic, but that was his best guess as he remembers becoming ill after being bitten bitten...

    Cultural Expectations?

I have heard that in the more rural parts of the country, it is rude to touch anyone or anything with your left hand, because that is the hand you wipe your posterior without access to running water in a lot of places, it is sort of inferred that you haven't washed your hands after a bowel...

    Traveling with a baby?

Only you know your baby, only you know your family dynamics. If these dynamics allow you to bring a baby with you on a trip to India, I say go for it! Just don't bathe him/her in the Ganges!

    Zika Virus in India?

Does anyone have any reputable information about Zika Virus being present in India? I was discussing with some friends a trip that I am planning to visit the country soon, and they were aghast. They told me Zika Virus was prevalent in the area. I thought it was only in South America! On a...

    Instagram For Travel Inspiration

This is a really good idea! Unfortunately, I am really computer illiterate. I can barely navigate Facebook, and I have had my account for almost a decade. I am way too young to be saying it, but things like Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram are just beyond my grasp. Now that I know it can be...

    Nude Beaches In India

India is simply not the place for specifically Nude beaches...but do not limit yourself or the fun you'll have by being so specific! There is nothing wrong with any of the beautiful beaches in this country that aren't designated as "nude".

Cruises Vs. Hotels - Or Both?

Does anyone have any information about how to get a job on a cruise ship with routes through/around India? I am really interested in going to India and have actually been planning a trip in the last little while. But it is all easier said then done, financially speaking. If I could find some way...

Fun Things To Do With Friends

I had never thought of India about a place to go swimming. I feel sort of prejudiced about it now, but anytime someone mentions "India" and "water" in the same sentence, it always makes me feel like I should avoid it. I had planned on drinking only bottled water on my holiday, no open drinks or...

    Mumbai Airport to Pune Bus

I saw some images on the news during a story about public transportation in India. The trains and buses look horribly crowded! Is this true for all bus routes throughout the country or only in the densely populated urban centers?

    Best Sweets of India

An Indian restaurant with an attached bakery just opened up where I live. It has proven to be very popular with the Indian population here. I have recently developed a taste for Indian cuisine, but when it comes to Indian sweets and desserts, I am completely out of my depth. After reading this...

Would You Drink During Local Festivities Even If You're Not A Drinker?

My advice is two-fold. One, is to try new things! It is truly the spice of life. The second piece of advice is to use alcohol in moderation, especially when one is not used to it's effects and is in a strange country where sad as it is to say, a tourist passed out drunk in a public location...

Anyone ever made their own chutney?

Very cool recipe! I got really into Mexican food a while back, and I still love making different kinds of salsas! I am sure the cooking skills I developed making salsas will be applicable in making chutney. I really want to adapt the recipe to a peach chutney, I think that would be amazing!

    The Traditional Drink.

This drink, "Kallu", can you describe the taste? As someone who has not yet been to India, much less tried this exotic beverage, I am extremely curious on all aspects of Indian culture, and have been trying to immerse myself to an extent over the past couple months. Is it something that can be...
