Since my flight from the US would most likely arrive in New Delhi, and I want to get to Rishikesh, I have a couple of choices. I do not want to drive, so that leaves the train to Haridwar or I can take another flight to Jolly Grant airport at Dehradun.
Is either of these options better than the...
Okay, thank you for letting me know. I was picturing afternoon rainstorms that blow through and you dry off afterwards. Sounds like you don't get to dry off. I will definitely bring the necessary rainwear.
I chose to avoid the month of March this year as that is when the International Yoga Festival is in Rishikesh and there will be so many people! It is selfish, but I would like to there with something less than thousands of people.
I want to limit my baggage to the absolute minimum, so I need to know what we're really talking about in terms of monsoon weather. Do I need a raincoat, umbrella, and boots? Or can I get away with a light waterproof jacket? I just don't know how wet I'm going to get!
I read! I used to bring a stack of books with me everywhere I went, but now I can load them up on my tablet. I love to have a few hours of downtime to just sit and read.
I would always book for the entire duration, also. What if you booked just the first night's stay, decided you really liked it, but the hotel was completely full after that? You'd have to leave and find another hotel!
Very clever of you to get in early before the crowd! Also a good way to avoid the heat of mid-day. I love the escellent photos, there really are some amazing birds there.
I'm trying to narrow down my travel plans and I want to stay at an ashram in Rishikesh or Haridwar. But there are so many! Does anyone have experience staying at a specific ashram?
I would very much like to visit Bodh Gaya to experience many of the things you have described here. Is it always very quiet and peaceful, or are there some times when it gets loud with lots of people (tourists) around?
That's a good point that people don't often consider. The proper clothing is important not only for comfort but also for health. Protect yourself from heatstroke and sunburn by wearing a hat and light breathable layers during the hot months.
I had read the opposite - that spring is best because it avoids the cold winter temperatures and the wet monsoon! But after reading the description of the lush green landscape during the monsoons, it does sound wonderful.
That's when I first started traveling, when I was 18 and I got a small sum of money from my grandmother. That gave me the travel bug, so now I save all my spare bits of cash in a separate account. I would like to make it a regular savings from my paycheck, but I'm not quite there yet.
