Monkey Aggression - Fact Or Fiction?

Recently a few people have mentioned to me that many parts of India have serious issues with monkeys, particularly with them roaming the streets in gangs, mugging people with shopping and even biting them. Is this a real risk, or more of an urban myth?

    Konark Dance Festival

I have seen photographs from this festival and it looks truly amazing. I think the architecture of the hall where they hold events would be worth the visit alone. Wouldn't it be fabulous if you could join in some of the dancing? I know some festivals are keen for visitors to do that.

    Showing Respect In India

Great tips here, and lots I had not heard before. The information about people in Nepal and Ethiopia touching their hand to their elbow is also a basic practice in Korea, a hangover from the days when the national dress had long sleeves which needed to be held back by servants as they poured...

Travelling As An Older Woman In India

I appreciate all the thoughtful responses. Thanks for taking the time to share your ideas and experiences. Jnorth - that is a scary story with a good outcome, and a good example of making sure someone knows where you are, or are meant to be, for sure. I have no problem sharing my daily plans...

    The Largest Sundial In Jaipur

I love your enthusiasm Elizabetonth, so I had to look for pictures of the sundial, and it is impressive. I have never been able to figure out how to read one of these things, so am mighty glad I don't live in a time where they are in daily use.

Is It Easy To Find Red Ant Chutney?

I am intrigued by the idea of this unusual chutney, and I am guessing it would be eaten with curry and rice, right? I have no idea how easy it is to find though. Is this a delicacy, and therefore really hard to find or extremely expensive? If anyone has tried it I'd love some feedback on the...

    Milk

There was a scare a couple of years ago about India's cows producing toxic milk because they were eating garbage and whatever they could find on the streets.

Travelling As An Older Woman In India

Thanks for the answers, sorry I didn't realise anyone had replied until now. The clothes side of things I am happy with, but I'm still curious to know if being a bit older than the average backpacker will be a hinderance, or maybe an advantage? I am used to doing things alone when I travel, so...

    Rooms Near The Elevator

The worst ever stay I had was in a UK airport hotel, where a plane load of foreign students ran amok through the entire place after their long suffering teachers escaped to bed. I'd take noisy elevators over hyped up children any day of the week.

    Laptop

Sp long as you take the usual safety precautions you would anywhere I'd say the biggest risks would be humidity, or you getting tired of carrying it. I prefer to travel with something lighter, like an iPad.

Trains Where to place luggage on Indian trains

You could always buy a money/document belt with a large enough pouch for your vital documents and cash.Choose the type that is designed to be worn next to your body, as they are more comfortable while sleeping. If you are buying things to secure a suitcase remember to get secure locks for the...

    Presents For Tour Guides

If you get to know the driver or guide through the trip you should be able to find out what their hobbies or interests are, or maybe what their favourite drink.is. That would make finding a gift quite easy.

    Curious About A Nagaland Tour

As a single traveler I quite enjoy tours, as it is nice to spend a week or so being organised by someone other than myself. It's also a good chance to meet others interested in the same things as me, Looking around the Internet I came across a tour to Nagaland, which is described with words...

Should I Rent A Car While In India?

It is definitely more fun to see what is going around you from the passenger seat having to concentrate hard to avoid having an accident. Travelcheap, I imagine taxis are not too pricey in India compared to Canada, right?

Travelling As An Older Woman In India

Has anyone any particular tips or advice to offer? I say older woman but I'm actually 40. I'm not going to be wanting to wear hotpants or revealing tops, so I don't need to worry about the clothes side of things.
