5 Star Hotels in Gangtok

On the occasion of our 5th wedding anniversary, I am planning to take my better half to a tour of Sikkim. We plan to cover the tourist attractions in Gangtok, Namchi, Pelling, Ravangla and Yuksom on this trip.

As per the information that I managed to gather, Gangtok seems to be the ideal base as all the places are within a radius of 120 KM from Gangtok. Also, being the state capital, Gangtok has a decent count of star hotels and resorts. So we are planning to book our accommodation in Gangtok itself.

As the trip is for celebrating a special occasion, we are keen on staying in a 5 star hotel in Gangtok. Although we have finalized the location of our base, we are not able to zero in upon any particular hotel. The problem is that we have never been to Sikkim before and have no idea which are the best 5 star hotels out there.

Gangtok does not have too many 5 star hotels, but there are quite a few options that can provide you the best-in-class luxury and comfort. Listed below are the best 5 star hotels and luxury resorts in Gangtok -

1. MayFair Spa Resort & Casino - It's the most well-known 5 star hotel in Gangtok. Located on the outskirts of the city in a clam and quiet environment. There's not many five star hotels in Gangtok. There are many four star hotels though that provide an experience almost the same as a five star hotel experience. Here's another list for you so you can have many options:

• Hotel Tara Palace. A luxury hotel located within walking distance to major tourist attractions. They have different rooms as well. The Deluxe Room doesn't have a balcony but it comes with the same amenities as the other two rooms. There's AC, tea/coffee maker, LCD television, safe, organic bathroom items and even free WiFi in the rooms. The restaurant/bar overlooks the city as well. Room rates start at Rs. 6,000 per night. Their exact location is at Nam Nang Road, Gangtok - 737101.

• Orange Village Resort. "Life without a time table, without appointments and deadlines." This is the tagline of the resort, with their luxurious design and interiors, one can really feel as if they are starting a new life in this place. They have spacious rooms, they even claim you can have your morning walks in it. All rooms have their own private verandas as well. They also have a lounge, a restaurant and a conference hall.
