Having Clothes Made in India

I am going to be in India with a few of my friends, and I am quite keen on getting some clothes from there ethnic and western.

I know that many ladies get their ethnic clothes made in India, but how easy it is for a foreigner who is not Indian having clothes made in India?

I am obviously going to get something Indian made for myself, but I would also like to get something western made to size for myself, is this possible?

I would say that tailors in India won't be as skilled in sewing Western clothes especially for women. For the most part, they're used to sewing sarees and punjabi clothing for women. I do know that many tailors sew suits for men. However, I don't know how experienced they might be in sewing Western styled clothes for you. You won't have any problem with having tailor-made ethnic clothes though since they do have lots of experience with that. If ever you do decide to have such clothes made, consider the following:
  • Bring your own clothes as reference materials. This way, they have something to copy from and your supposed tailor-made outfit would come out more fitting.
  • If you can, choose the fabrics or buy the fabrics yourself.
  • It takes time to sew a particularly good design and clothing item, so don't expect a good outcome with rushed works.
  • Always have some kind of allowance especially if that is the style of the clothing you'd like.
Here's a list of some of the tailors in Delhi that I know of:
  • Dresswell Goel. Located in 130-M/1, Gautam Nagar. One of the few shops that specialise in Indian and Western clothes.
  • Amrapali Tailors. Perfect for Indian wear. Located in 26, Central Market, Lajpat Nagar.
  • Vogue Jeans Tailors & Drapers, Mohan Singh Place. Great for tailoring jeans. Located in Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Outer Circle, Connaught Place.

You can try some of the traditional clothes in Indian like saree, salwar which gives an elegant look for women.
 
I have been to india once so far, and I did end up buying a couple clothing items to bring home with me. I have worn each item once (both items are shirts), though I have noticed that they arent the greatest quality. The sewing is not like it is here in the US, and the fabric lines don't match up. Now that I noticed those flaws, I dont wear them as much, since i'm a little OCD about it.
