Being an immensely popular weekend getaway from Mumbai and Pune, Matheran has loads of hotels and resorts catering to budgets of all sizes. From economy lodges to standard hotels and luxury resorts, you can be assured to find a staying option that perfectly suits your pocket.
When we visited Matheran in October 2015, we had stayed at Hill View Cottage near Bazaar Peth. The tariff per night was around INR 1200, which was a good value for money deal. We had booked through Go-IBIBO and got some good discounts. Cleanliness was good and the hotel employees were courteous, but the location could have been better. There was vehicle parking facility and the room service was decent as well. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend them if you are looking for a comfortable stay sans any recreational facilities.
Madhumalti Hotel is another decent budget hotel to stay in Matheran. It is located near the Matheran railway station.
I had also seen a few basic accommodation type lodges at Matheran that are ideally suitable for backpackers, but unable to recollect the names at the moment.
Anyway, here are a few more reliable hotels, cottages and resorts in Matheran:
1. Roshan Residency, Ebrahim Khan Road - Tariff INR 1000 onwards. Contact - 96237 34241.
2. Hotel Lake View, Shivaji Road - Tariff INR 1600 onwards. Contact - 98676 41021.

5. Usha Ascot, M.G. Road, - Tariff INR 3500 onwards. Contact - 022220 78292.
Do make sure to book your stay well in advance. All the reputed hotels run out of vacancy especially on weekends. As you are travelling with family, I would strongly suggest you not to take any risk and book your stay prior to travelling. Online booking can get you some great discount deals which you may not get if you are directly calling at the hotel reception. So do check out popular hotel booking sites like MMT, Cleartrip or Go-IBIBO for availing some irresistible discounts.
