I am from Melbourne and will be going to India in November this year after many years. I would be visiting different parts of Punjab, as I have friends and family spread across the state.

These days I hear about a lot of airports being opened in Punjab, and I was wondering how many airports are in Punjab? It would be good to get flights to the places I would be visiting as traveling would become much easier.

There are quite a few airports in Punjab, one of them which has newly opened in Adampur which is situated in Jalandhar district.

I have provided a list of all the airports in Punjab and mentioned whether they operate domestic or international flights.
  • Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport - Amritsar (International)
  • Chandigarh Airport - Chandigarh (International)
  • Bathinda Airport - Bathinda (Domestic)
  • Sahnewal Airport - Ludhiana (Domestic)
  • Pathankot Airport - Pathankot (Domestic)
  • Patiala Airport - Patiala (Domestic)

I know about the Amritsar and Chandigarh airports, as I have been to them, although I wasn't aware of the airports in Bathinda, Sahnehwal, Pathankot or Patiala, are these even operational?

Punjab has a well-developed airport network, which can be great news for your upcoming visit in November! Here's a breakdown:

Number of Airports:

There are a total of 17 airports in Punjab, categorized as follows:

  • International Airports: 3 (Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar, Adampur Airport, and Pathankot Airport)
  • Domestic Airports: 9
  • Private Airports: 4
  • Military Base: 1
This indicates a good spread of airports across the state, potentially making air travel a convenient option for reaching different parts of Punjab where you have friends and family.

Additional Information:

  • Major Airports: The most prominent airports are Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar and Chandigarh International Airport (which technically falls in Chandigarh but serves the region).
  • Other Operational Airports: Ludhiana, Bathinda, and Patiala also have operational airports.
  • Research for Specific Locations: Depending on where your friends and family are located, you might need to research the specific airports closest to their areas and check flight availability closer to your travel dates.
It's definitely a positive development that Punjab has invested in expanding its airport network, potentially making your travels within the state smoother and faster.
