In the first week of Navratri, I plan to go to Vaishno Devi, my travel will be from Delhi. It has not been decided yet how I will reach Katra it will be either by train or bus.

What I would like to know is how many kilometers it is from Katra to Vaishno devi, so I can decide how to travel to the shrine, and if required make any bookings for the helicopter ride.

The distance from Katra to the Vaishno Devi Temple is approximately 13 to 14 kilometers (about 8 to 8.7 miles) one way. The temple is located in the Trikuta Mountains, and visitors typically undertake a trek to reach the shrine. You have a few options for covering this distance:

    1. On Foot: Many pilgrims choose to undertake the entire journey on foot as a form of devotion. The trekking route is well-paved, and there are resting points along the way. It takes several hours to complete the uphill trek.

    2. Pony Ride: You can also opt for a pony ride to cover the distance from Katra to the Vaishno Devi Temple. Pony services are available, but it's essential to negotiate the fare and confirm the availability in advance.

    3. Helicopter: For a faster and more convenient option, you can take a helicopter from Katra to Sanjichhat, which is close to the Vaishno Devi Temple. Helicopter services are available, but it's advisable to book your tickets in advance, especially during peak pilgrimage seasons.
The choice of mode of transportation (foot, pony, or helicopter) will depend on your personal preferences, physical fitness, and the time you have available. Trekking on foot is a common choice for those seeking a spiritual experience, while the helicopter provides a faster and more comfortable option for those with limited time or physical constraints.

Please note that during the peak pilgrimage season and festivals like Navratri, there can be heavy crowds and longer waiting times for pony rides and helicopter services. It's a good idea to plan your visit and make any necessary reservations well in advance to ensure a smooth journey to the Vaishno Devi Temple.
