    Summary:

Maravanthe is an idyllic beach retreat located near Kundapura in coastal Karnataka, 56 KM away from Udupi along NH17. Recognized by the Outlook Traveller magazine as one of the most scenic beaches in Karnataka, you would seldom come across such a pristine beach. The unique set-up of the beach is very impressive. NH17 which connects Mangalore to Goa runs alongside the beach towards the West. On one side you can see the azure Arabian sea while the other side has the Souparnika River meandering its way through the lush green vegetation. It seems as if the almighty had actually designed the whole set-up on a blank canvas first and then replicated it in the real world, with utmost care.

    How To Reach There?

By Road: Maravanthe beach lies along National Highway 17 which runs from Mangalore to Goa. The nearest town is Kundapura, 23 KM away from the beach. Regular bus service is available from Mangalore, Udupi, Kundapura, Bhatkal and Margao. Overnight buses to Kundapura run from Bangalore and Mysore as well. It takes around 12 hours from Bangalore and 9 hours from Mysore to reach Maravanthe.

By Train: Kundapura (KUDA) is the nearest railway station. Multiple trains are available from Mangalore, Trivandrum, Kochi and Vasco that have scheduled stops at Kundapura.

By Air: Mangalore International Airport is situated at a distance of 112 KM from Maravanthe. It is well-connected to other major airports in India. You can hire a taxi from Mangalore airport to arrive at Maravanthe. There is no fixed taxi fare. The more you bargain, the better rate you get. A non-AC 5-seater taxi from Mangalore should ideally cost around INR 1200.

    Tourist Activities and Attractions:

The beach is conducive for taking a dip in the water because of its sandy shallow surface. You can also go for a refreshing stroll along its golden sandy coastline dotted with coconut palms. Don't forget to catch some breathtaking views of the sunset from the sea shore at Maravanthe. The flaming red beams of light lingering on the sky to mingle with the rolling clouds is a spectacular sight.

Tourist facilities are yet to develop at this beach and as of now there is no water sports facility available at Maravanthe. That can be a dampner for the adventure seekers, but Maravanthe does make up for the lack of adventure sports with its stunning scenic beauty. Water sports facility is, however, available at the Malpe beach in Udupi - which is just an hour-long drive from Maravanthe (56 KM).

You can hire a country boat to go for a leisurely boat-ride on the Souparnika River. The river is also known for trout fishing activities. So if you are looking for a suitable spot to try your hands at angling, then Maravanthe can be a good choice for you.
