I was thinking of going Mussoorie this summer with the family, but the plans for Mussoorie have been canceled, and we are now deciding to go Mussoorie during the month of December. We know that during December the weather is cold, but do not know how cold and whether it is the right time to visit Mussoorie.

So some input to what the Mussoorie weather in December is like would be good to know.

    Some other queries I have:

    1. Is Mussoorie covered in snow during December?

    2. Even though it may be cold in December in Mussorie is there still a lot we can do there?

    3. Are there many tourists in Mussoorie during the month of December?

Yes, you will be able to see snow in Mussoorie in December, it would be best to go during the end of December as there will be more chances of seeing snow then. Please do take note that the weather can be very unpredictable so there can be chances that there is no snow at all.

There are plenty of activities which you can do in Mussoorie during December:
    - Camping
    - Paragliding
    - Trekking
    - Not exactly an activity but walking on Camels Back Road is a must when in Mussoorie
    - Go on the cable car to see the view of the snow covered mountains

There would be many tourists in the month of December in Mussoorie, not as many as in the summer months, though.
Mussoorie is as popular in the winters as it is in the summers.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

During winter season, from November to February, the temperature in Mussoorie can go as low as -1°C. The maximum temperature is at 10°C. As you can see, the weather in Mussoorie gets particularly cold and chilly in December. Be very careful though as some roads are blocked by snow and landslides can happen as well. Check the weather report before venturing out in the winter.

Yes, during the winter season, Mussoorie gets covered by blankets of white and pure snow. It gets particularly thicker during the months of December and January though.

Yes, you can still take part in sightseeing activities like:
    • Visit the Kempty Falls. Aside from the falls, there's also a swimming pool nearby which kids can enjoy. Food shacks can also be seen around the area as well as stores selling swimming gears.
    • Lake Mist. Just a great place to enjoy the view of the surroundings.
    • Happy Valley. This is a Tibetan settlement a few kilometres away from the city centre.
    • Himalayan Weavers. A shop selling handwoven shawls, scarves and pashmina dyed with natural dyes.
    • Jawahar Aquarium. You can view different species of fishes here.
    • Company Garden. A great place to relax and for the kids, they can enjoy the rides here.
Other activities you can do are:
    • Skating in the largest skating rink in Asia located in Kurli Bazaar.
    • Ride a Cable Car to the Gun Hill, the highest point in Mussoorie.
    • Enjoy eating in the restaurants in the area.
    • Trek the different peaks in Mussoorie, my favourite would be the Cloud's End which marks the border of the region.
Yes, December is considered as one of the peak months of Mussoorie. If you'd like to avoid the crowds, consider moving your trip a bit to October or November when Mussoorie isn't as crowded with tourists. You can enjoy discounts in hotels this way as well.

    I hope this helps!
