Mumbai is the holiday destination this year. As monsoons are coming up, we will visit after they have finished which would be in September/October. The main reason for going Mumbai is just seeing the super busy city (also known as the city of dreams) and of course being by the sea, something which I have not seen before.

I would like a list of the places to visit in Mumbai, and it would be great if the places of attraction would be designated according to the part of Mumbai they are in.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Here is a list of all the places to visit in Mumbai along with their distances from the town centre:
  • Bandra Talao or Bandra Lake. At just about 9.5 kms from Mumbai, you'll find this lake. Another UNESCO Heritage Site, you can try boating here or just watching the birds from a distance. It also is an amazing spectacle at night with the lights in the lake.
  • Nehru Centre. This is about 15 kms from Mumbai. There's lots to explore here, a library, a cultural centre and even an auditorium. You can make for arrangements for viewing the solar system, eclipses and other such experiences.
  • Haji Ali Shrine. This is 19 kms from Mumbai. A combination of Indian and Muslim architectural styles and was made using marbles resembling that of the Taj Mahal.
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. About 24 kms from Mumbai, you'll find their bus terminal. This is another UNESCO Heritage site boasting of its combination of Indian, Victorian and even Gothic architectural styles. This is a terminal for buses but I think it warrants some admiration from tourists as well because of the exquisite design and architecture of the building.
  • Flora Fountain. This is about 24 kms from Mumbai. This is a temple dedicated to Roman Goddess Flora. It's a must to visit this place during the evening when it's all lit up.
  • Marine Drive. This is about 25 kms away from Mumbai. This is also known as "The Queen's Necklace" and it stretches for about 3 kms long. Tourists love walking along its coastline and enjoying the cool breeze of the water.
  • Gateway of India. This is about 25.2 kms from the town proper of Mumbai. An 85-feet tall structure dedicated to commemorate King George. It is a combination of different architectural styles: Hindu, Islam and European.
  • Elephanta Caves. This is about 46 kms from Mumbai, situated in Elephanta Island. From the Gateway of India, you can ride a ferry that can take you here. This was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Some of the sculptures have already been destroyed but you can still see some intricate artwork here and there. This is a must to visit for every tourist going to Mumbai.
I hope this helps!

P.S.

They're already arranged in order of distance. But you can also start with the Gateway of India and Elephanta Caves for Day 1 of your trip. Then from there, visit the other places the next day.
