Planning to visit Manali in October

We (2 Person) are planning to visit Kullu Manali in last week of October for 3 to 4 days. Can anyone help us for a perfect plan?

We need some suggestion for the below question:

1. How to reach Manali from Delhi? Is there any shared car or bus? If yes then what is the timing and fare?

2. How to book taxi for Rohtang pass? What is the fare?
Sharing available there? Are they include other places as well? like Solang Vally etc. On Rohtang Pass trip?

3. How to do local sightseeing at Manali by sharing car for 1 day?

4. How to include Kullu in this plan? Can we get sharing car for Kullu too?

As we are only 2 member in this group we need sharing car(if available) for minimize travel cost. It helped us lot in our Sikkim trip.

The best option in my opinion is taking a Volvo AC bus run by HPTDC. The buses leave twice daily from Delhi, first one at 6:30PM and second one at 7:30PM. This ticket from Delhi to Manali would cost you Rs1300 each. Volvo buses are the best way to travel for such a long distance where trains are not available.

2. How to book taxi for Rohtang pass? What is the fare?
Sharing available there? Are they include other places as well? like Solang Vally etc. On Rohtang Pass trip?

You can again get a HPTDC bus for a local tour that goes like this : Manali-Kothi-Rahla Fall- Rohtangpass & back. This tour costs Rs310 per person. Please double check on HPTDC website because rates may have increased a little (or a lot) since the government has imposed a pollution tax for rohtang pass.

Please check this page for details about other day tours that HPTDC runs at very reasonable prices.

Booking a taxi is never a problem but this new tax makes it too expensive for just a few hours visit.

3. How to do local sightseeing at Manali by sharing car for 1 day?

You could contact the local taxi stand or get in touch with other guests at the hotel you would be staying at to see if someone is willing to join you on the tour and share costs. You can also ask the reception staff and see if they know of such options using shared transport.

4. How to include kullu in this plan? Can we get sharing car for Kullu too?

Not sure about sharing but it is only about 40Km distance between Manali and Kullu. Taking a taxi for a day tour should not cost too much as the distance is very short.

Another option is staying at a hotel in Kullu for a few days in addition to Manali. Kullu is beautiful and very peaceful with lots of temples to see and beautiful scenery. You could also go for long walks there.

There is some change in schedule. Now it is from 5th to 10th October. Can we get snow on that time?

You wont get any snow at Manali in beginning of October. Manali gets snow in later part of December. You can see snow fall at Rohtang in the time you are visiting but as you may already know it is not continuous so you may not be able to see if your trip is just a couple of house to Rohtang. I can assure you that there will be fresh snow on the ground that can be used to make snow balls if thats what you are wondering about.

If I was you I would divide the holiday into two equal parts and stay the first part at Manali and second part at Kullu. There is nothing to plan to be honest as sigh seeing buses are available that are run by HP tourism but they only leave when they have enough bookings so you might have to speak to the hotel reception to keep you updated on that part but other then the day tour there isint much to plan really.

Staying at both Kullu and Manali would give you a taste of both the places and while you are at Kullu you could do a day tour of the temples around there and a sigh seeing tour besides trekking (if you are into that kind of stuff) or just go for walks in the morning and evening and see the surroundings and appreciate the beauty of those hills.
