My mom asked me to get a saree for her when I go to India. I want to do that, but I think I will be surrounded by thousands of sarees and not know how to pick one. Are they all silk? Approximately how much does a saree cost?

Hi, It depends upon the quality of saree and the location from where you want to buy the saree. Approx cost for a good quality saree starts from 2000 to 3000 INR.

That's actually pretty good in my opinion! I would like something good quality and I'm prepared to shell out a little more for something that's going to last!

I would also like to buy a nice one for my fiancee. Where would be the best place to find good quality ones in Mumbai?

There are various varieties of sarees to choose from - cotton, silk, crepe, chiffon etc. The price depends on the material and the kind of embroidery or zari work done on it. A good saree can be bought somewhere between Rs. 3000-5000.

If you like the sarees, you should buy several, since there will be so many wonderful choices, and the price is much better than in the US. I plan to get as many as I can.

I have been looking at them online, and they are very beautiful. Now I want to buy a few for myself and my sisters as well as my mom.

price of the saree depends on the sari material. Cotton saree are cheaper compared to silk saree. Price also depends on the prints and color patterns. Plain or one color saree are cheaper than multicolor and printed saree. If the saree contains too much embrodiary work, it is very expensive.
