Where can a tourist buy souvenir art, craft and other assorted curios without running the risk of getting knock offs or getting ripped off in a similar manner. I've heard reports of people traveling to a country and bringing back fake goodies from a completely different country. Anywhere in or around New Delhi would be best.

If you are interested in anything typically Indian and genuine then Khadi Bhandars is the place. They are scattered all over the country. One can get many interesting artifacts. Until recently one could even get ivory but that is now banned for import.Most what you get at such centres are food products, khadi cosmetic products, honey, soap, bags, handicrafts all made at the grass root levels. Readymade clothes made from hand woven fabrics are most popular.

I would love to buy spices and carry them with me back to my country. Indians in my country are fond of spicy meals and chilly, which I believe they also use some coloured spices for decoration and ceremonial events, right? I won't forget to ask more about the relevance of these when I get there too.

When it comes to colour I can think of turmeric and saffron. The turmeric gives a yellow colour and the saffron condiment gives a saffron colour. Both these condiments are rich in health properties. Saffron is pretty expensive though. It costs around $11,000 per kilo ( 2.2 lbs) while turmeric is a mere $ 4 per kilo.

Pepper and Chillies provide the spice in one's food and this I suppose could be found in other countries as well. When it comes to aroma there is the cardamom and vanilla
