Trivandrum City Points of Interest

My wife and I have decided to visit Trivandrum City for our holiday in Kerala. There are quite a few temples to see in the city, but we would like to visit a variety of things. We need some help in finding out what the
Trivandrum city points of interest are.

We have a ten-day holiday and would prefer to see one place in one day. More than one temple can be covered in a day.

We do have a list of the temples, but are only interested in visiting the popular ones, so please mention temples as well.

Here's a list of the most popular attractions in Trivandrum:

Popular Temples to Visit

• Padmanabha Swamy Temple. A temple depicting Dravidian and Kerala styles of architecture, this is dedicated to the Lord Vishnu. A statue of the Lord Vishnu sleeping in the Anantha can be seen here. This is located on the East Fort in the city and thousands of pilgrims visit the temple every year.

• Vellayani Sree Bhadrakali Temple. This is one of the oldest temples in the region, as it's about 800 years old. The priests in this temple are under the Viswakarma community.

• Sree Pazhanchira Devi Temple. This one's another old temple at about 700 years old. It is believed that a Siddha yogi built the temple.

• Attukal Bhagavathy Temple. The majority of the devotees here are women hence the temple is also called the "Sabarimala of the Women."

Beaches

• Kovalam Beach. Apart from the majestic views of the sea, there's also a lighthouse in here with great views of the surroundings. For adventure seekers, you can try out water sports in here like snorkelling and catamaran sailing.

• Shanghumukham Beach. The Jalakanyaka-Mermaid Sculpture can be found here. There's also various eateries around which makes the perfect place for a day out.

• Varkala Beach. This beach is just under a cliff and has amazing views of the Arabian Sea.

• Black Beach. Just nearby the Varkala Beach, there's the Black Beach which as the name implies, has black sands and blue waters.

Others

• Napier Museum and Zoological Gardens. The museum houses several artefacts with bronze items, ancient instruments and ivory carvings. The Zoological Gardens has many species of plants and trees.

• Veli Tourist Village. From here, you can see the Veli Lake meeting with the Arabian Sea. There's also a wooden bridge connecting the village to the Veli Beach. You can also ride a boat to view the entire lake.

• Poovar Village. Famous for its backwaters, this is yet another beautiful village to visit in Trivandrum.
