I read on the news recently that India now gives VISA ON ARRIVAL for Japanese nationals. The program started just this March 1, 2016. According to the news, the visa on arrival facility for Japanese will be available at six airports in India namely Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The said visa may be availed for business, tourism, conference and medical treatment purposes. The visa will be good for a period of 30 days.
Yes, Japan is among the growing list of countries where visa on arrival in India is allowed. Other countries included in the list are Australia, Brazil, Germany, Singapore, USA and many more. You'll have to check their site to know the complete list as it's too many to mention here. But if the tourist wants to avail of their visa in advance, that's fine as well. To be eligible for this type of visa, here are the requirements: The reason for travel must be recreation, sight seeing, visit to friends, medical treatment or business meeting. Passport should be at least six months valid. Foreign travellers must have enough money for their stay and their tickets. This is not available to diplomatic passport holders. You can apply online, pay the fee and receive your ETA. Bring your ETA with you as it's required to properly process your visa. So for anyone out there who's been wanting to visit India, do so now! If you're from the countries on this list, applying for visa on arrival is a breeze. Good luck and enjoy your trip!
I second Briannagodess. The current Modi regime has introduced Visa on Arrival to people from a few select group of countries. India, lately, has become a most popular destination for medical tourism as the quality of medical professionals is very high along with state-of-the-art facilities.
