What To Wear In India

I will be in India in August this year, and I know the weather will be very hot, and I also know that the culture and tradition in India are also very different.
I would therefore like some advice on what to wear in India. I am a middle aged female who will be traveling with my husband. The places of the visit will be Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

I think the biggest tips of advice I've read so far in researching the same topic are to dress reasonably conservatively, but also to pack clothing that's going to be breathable and comfortable in the climate there. I'll be packing plenty of cotton based garments for breathability and also things like maxi skirts, so that I'm well covered (I burn really easily too, so it helps in a sun protection sense too!)

Dressing conservatively is always the right approach when you are a tourist. It goes with every country out there, not just India. It's going to be hot, so wear loose and breezy clothes, but you should also know the norms about being in a crowd in general. I'm sure you'll be fine though, regular clothes is enough, it's not like you'll be going to wear skimpy clothing or anything. If you really need to get away from the heat, try a fan, or some cool beverages. Surely establishments would have those.

I say wear whatever makes you comfortable. There's no point in pretending you're not a tourist, no harm, no foul. Just be comfortable and safe.

I would wear light materials because it's going to really hot and I think dressing conservatively is a good idea, I like to keep my skin covered anyway because I'm very fair and burn very easily so nice light fabrics that protect my skin from the sun are a must.

In summer time make sure you pack sunscreen and a confortable hat. Also pack fresh clothes in case you need to change due to the sweat and travel with allot of water!

I think it's always wise advise to dress conservatively especially if you're going somewhere you've never been before but seeing your age and your company I think you'll take the smart decision anyhow. Wear something long, light and loose as I like to say-- a polo shirt perhaps or a dress that covers well. Wear light clothing and bring a cap or umbrella if it gets hot.

August is a month that still sees rain. You should have rainproof footwear depending on how the weather pans out when you decide to be out on the road. India sees many foreigners and never dictates what they should wear. Be yourself.
