We are planning for a road trip to Leh Ladakh via Manali-Leh Highway and so looking for information on probable date for the opening of Rohtang Pass. I heard that the road usually opens sometime in late May and remains open till October end. Any idea by when the Rohtang Pass will be open for vehicular movements this year? I would highly appreciate any authentic information on Rohtang Pass opening date and the current road condition of Manali-Leh national highway. Thanks much.

You heard that right, Manali-Leh Highway trip depends on the opening of Rohtang Pass. Rohtang Pass usually remains open for just around 5 months in a calender year. Typically it is cleared for traffic movement by the mid of May and it remains operational till the beginning of October.
This year, the Rohtang Pass has been declared 'open' by the BRO on the 16th of May. Traffic movement is already building up on Manali-Leh highway, although the road condition is still not the best. BRO is working on the broken stretches and the condition of the road is expected to improve by another week or so.

Yeah you heard it right Rohtang Pass is the gateway to Leh , Lahaul , Spiti etc., and with the coming of summer it becomes the hub of riders and travellers mostly adventurous, trekkers and motor riders. It open in May/June and remain open till October/November.
Now about the road condition than with the hit of El Nino across the globe, there is slight change in the temperature and BRO officials had already started clearing the Manali-Leh Highway so yeah when you are on the trip you will have a great road to ride on... So have a great trip. Thanks.
