While I'm not saying you're wrong, could you elaborate a little about the horror stories you've heard please? I went on a cruise a while ago, and even though it wasn't to my taste, I wouldn't say I have any horror stories to talk about as such.

As you say, if you've never been yourself it's always worth trying something new at least once, and going on a cruise is no different. I've been on one, it was better than I thought it would be and I'm glad I tried it, but I'm definitely more of an hotel and dry land kind of guy.

Being safe and secure in any city, including Mumbai, is mostly down to common sense in my opinion. While it's true that tourists are the biggest targets, then with that in mind, trying to blend in more with the locals and not stand out too much could also make sense.
