We will reach Guwahati from Gaya on 24th dec and we are looking for an accomodation for a couple of days. Any advice? We are a couple looking for a simple guest house. Thanks for your help

If you want something simple and comfortable instead of a hotel chain, Guwahati has a few good areas that work well for short stays.

For guest houses, Uzan Bazaar and Pan Bazaar are usually the safest bets. They're close to the Brahmaputra, fairly central, and quieter than Paltan Bazaar. You'll find several small lodges and homestays there that cater to couples and travelers passing through for a couple of days.

Chandmari and the Zoo Road area are also worth considering. These are residential localities with a few clean guest houses and homestays, and getting around by auto or cab is easy from there.

Since you're arriving around Christmas, which tends to be a busy travel period, I'd suggest booking in advance rather than searching after you land. Check recent reviews on Google Maps or Booking dot com and look for places that clearly mention couple friendly policies.

I'd skip Paltan Bazaar if you want peace. It gets very crowded and noisy, especially near the railway station.

Hope this helps. Have a pleasant stay in Guwahati.
