How to check pnr status?

I have booked two tickets from Surat to Pune, and I now need to check what the PNR status of the tickets is. Please, can someone guide me to find out how to check the PNR status of a train ticket?

If it is something which can be done online, that would be even better.

The first thing you need to do when you get your ticket is take note of its Passenger Name Record (PNR), which is a 10-digit code located at the top left corner. Once you have the PNR, it is very easy to know your PNR status through these various methods. So let's discuss these different methods and how you can proceed with them.

Online Method for Checking PNR Status for Indian Railways Ticket

• Go to the Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry website. Alternatively, there are also other websites that you can use like PNR Status Live and Trains PNR Status.

• Once you are at the homepage of the Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry website, click on the PNR Status tab.

• Input your 10-digit PNR from the ticket and click on Submit.

• Your PNR status would then be displayed and you can see if your ticket remains waitlisted, RAC or has been confirmed.

Online Method for Checking PNR Status for Indian Railways Ticket Booked through IRCTC Website

• If you have booked your ticket online, you can also just log into your account in the IRCTC website.

• Click on the Booked Ticket History and select the e-Ticket you booked.

• Then, click on the tab Get PNR Status and you would get a real time update about your PNR status.

Text Method for Checking PNR Status for Indian Railways Ticket

• On your mobile phone, follow this format: 'PNR <your PNR number here>'

• So this would come out to be: PNR 1234567890.

• Send this text message to either 139 or 5676747 and you'd receive an update about the PNR status of your ticket.

Calling Method for Checking PNR Status for Indian Railways Ticket

• On your mobile phone, dial 139 and select which language is suitable for you.

• Press 1 and enter the 10-digit PNR number. To confirm the number inputted, press 1 again.

• After which, you'd be updated about the status of your PNR whether it's confirmed, waitlisted or RAC.

There are also android applications that you can download to know the PNR status of your ticket. Some of the best rated apps are the PNR Status and Train Info, Indian Rail PNR Status Enquiry, PNR Status Notifier and IRCTC Mobile. There are also some applications for checking PNR status for apple gadgets like Indian Rail Info and Indian Rail IRCTC & Train PNR. These applications do require internet connection though either through WiFi or 3G.

You can check your PNR status online on indianrail website. Also, there are tons of apps that has this functionality. Just search app store and get one you like. But if you just need to check this once and not going to use it much later, I would suggest you check it online on indianrail website.
