How To Transfer Money From India To UK?

I am from New Delhi and my daughter has recently gone to the UK for studies, and I need to send her some money.
I would like to know how to transfer money from India to the UK?

Please only mention the safe and legal ways to send money to the UK.

My parents had recently sent some money from India to Austrailia and they used services from ICICI Bank using internet banking. The exchange rate is not too bad, but its the best and most trustworthy way of sending money from India to abroad.

The money would go into the UK bank account within 3-5 working days.

I didn't use the service as the money was not required at the time, but we need to send it now to my daughter. I understand that ICICI provides the money transfer service, but I would also like to know how long the transfer takes, and whether it includes only working days?

There are a couple of safe and legal ways to send money from India to the UK for your daughter's studies:

  • Bank Transfers: This is a common method, secure and reliable. However, it can be slow and potentially expensive due to bank fees and not-so-favorable exchange rates. You can initiate the transfer online or by visiting your bank branch in New Delhi.
  • Money Transfer Services: Companies like Wise (formerly TransferWise) or Western Union offer online money transfer services. These are generally faster than bank transfers and may offer competitive exchange rates. Be sure to compare fees associated with each service before choosing one.

Here are some things to keep in mind for both methods:

  • You'll need your daughter's bank details in the UK, including her bank name, account number, and BIC/SWIFT code.
  • You'll need to provide your own identification documents for the transfer.
  • There may be daily or monthly limits on how much money you can send.
For choosing the best option, transfer amount, and overall cost (including fees and exchange rate).
