Nude Beaches In India

I will be in Goa soon and was just thinking whether it has a nude beach, but I have just read the thread about Goa nude beaches and there are no nude beaches. I wanted to know whether there are any other beaches in India which have nude beaches, or even any hotels which have a private nude beach area.
I actually thought that because some people just walk around naked in some parts of India due to religious reasons that nudity on beaches would also be allowed, I may be wrong so do clarify this.

Yes we have plenty of naked guys and no one minds that as long as they are under the religious umbrella everything is fine. When it comes to women, nudity in public spaces is a big no no. You can find plenty of women in bikinis on beaches and that is not really frowned upon especially for tourists, no one bothers them for what they are wearing as long as they are wearing something . You wont find many Indian girls wearing a bikini.

Nude beaches in India are non existent. There are "no" designated nude beaches in India or even topless beaches in India.

If you like your privacy and want to have your own way on a beach then find a secluded one and do what you want. You will find plenty of options in Andaman Nicobar islands and Lakshdweep islands.

I went to Nashik for three days to experience the Kumbha festival and saw lots of naked sadhus but people see them with respect and someone going naked on a beach wont be looked upon like that.

There are out of the way hotels in South Goa where the beaches are nearly private. You will not encounter anyone but hotel guests. Perhaps, something might be arranged there. But I don't think it is a likely possibility. If that is a requirement, you might need to try somewhere else. Nude beaches of quality are hard to find though, since they are either low quality sands or filled with gawkers.

I don't recommend getting nude at a beach in India... especially, if you're a woman. I don't mean to sound sexist, I'm a woman myself. But, a lot of men in India don't think the way men do in other countries, this is just reality. In some parts if India women are gang raped and murdered for being out after dark unescorted. It's just smart to stick to staying covered in India. There are other parts in the world with cultures that openly embrace public nudity but India isn't one of them, especially women.

I have been to Goa plenty of times and it would be a good idea to at least have a bikini on, rather then nude.
As the above poster pointed out, the culture and mindset in India, is much different and therefore, nude beach goers are considered as people who encourage others to approach for intimacy. The mentality is sick, but that's how it is in India, so unfortunately, no nude beaches in India. Its a great country otherwise, just not that modern to accept nude beach goers.

Well, I can't say that that is anything I would have been interested in! I have been to Ukraine, though, and they tend to have a lot of topless beaches. Or more accurately, they simply don't see this is as an inhibition, so there aren't really any rules at any beaches, as far as I am aware.

But yes, Indian women have been, even historically, very modest. I would not expect to see any Indian women in less than modest dress even by the seaside. If you are hoping for that kind of a 'view,' you might want a different country!

Under the IPC Section 294, any obscene acts in public place are considered illegal. Hence, being naked in public is considered as illegal in India. There's a corresponding fine and imprisonment for any person violating this law. Now, there are also no beaches in India that do allow or even promote nudity.

There are some private beaches in Goa that sometimes experiences nude tourists, but even that is considered illegal and they can get fined. There are also some beaches, those that are very secluded can be a spot for nudists. Take your own risk when visiting these beaches and going all nude though:

• Paradise Beach in Gokarna - Because this beach is only accessible by a boat ride, not many people visit it. Aside from that, shy boatmen are almost reluctant to take you to the beach because of the nudity there. They will drop you though almost on the beach but you'd have to walk a little. You can also reach it by foot but you'd have to trek through some forests. You can find some hippies here who sunbathe and swim in the nude. There are a few shacks here as well that offer some meals for tourists. There are no water sports available here though.

• Om Beach in Gokarna - From a helicopter, the Om Beach is shaped just like its name. It's located right next to the Chapora River and even has two streams next to it. You can reach the Om Beach by trekking through the town of Gokarna. The trek itself is about 4 hours, maybe that's why not a lot of people visit this beautiful beach. Once you reach the main part of the beach, it can get crowded especially on weekends. But on the distant and further end of it, you'll find that it's more secluded. You might also spot some tourists enjoying this seclusion.

• Agatti Island in Lakshadweep - This is another secluded and hard to reach island, perhaps that's the reason why not many tourists visit it. You need a confirmed hotel booking to even enter the islands. It's one of the virgin islands of India, with rich marine life and coral reefs. All around the beach you can find palm trees and coconut trees. It is also said that this is one of the supposed topless beaches in the country. It's not entirely a nudist beach though as that is illegal in India. But since tourists all around the world visit the island, it's not uncommon to find them here as well, sometimes, in the nude.

• Ozran Beach in Goa - This is situated after Anjuna Beach and is very close to the Vagator Beach. You can find many foreigners enjoying the privacy that this little beach offers. It is also very famous among the Israeli tourists in the country. You'd have to hike a hill to reach the beach. It's not uncommon to find foreigners here enjoying the sun in their bikinis, or yes, even topless.

• Marari Beach in Kerala - This beach is about 60 kms in the South of Cochin. Since it's very secluded, some tourists enjoy this and do flaunt their bodies. There's not much to do here but enjoy the sun and beach. There are a few accommodation options as well, ranging from guest houses and home stays.

There you go. As I've said, visit these beaches at your own risk, especially if you're wanting to explore your body. There's a chance that you might get fined and even arrested. That being said, these beaches are worth visiting, not because they can be nudist places, but because they are also beautiful and serene.

India is simply not the place for specifically Nude beaches...but do not limit yourself or the fun you'll have by being so specific! There is nothing wrong with any of the beautiful beaches in this country that aren't designated as "nude".

Well we did not come across any nude beaches when we were there, but I am pretty sure that India might not be the best place for them, like @EdmondE points out above. That said, though, it is a big country so I am sure somewhere you look there is maybe something. There are certainly plenty of other sights to see, though, and there is no shortage of history and culture to take in.

There's an article I saw a while back on tripadvisor which claims that Ozran Beach is a nudist beach. Don't know if it is legal for tourists to be nude on that beach but if you are into naturism and want to sunbath with other nudists, then this definitely is the beach that will proffer you all you seek.

I think @briannagodess covered all the important nude beaches. Most of these beaches are only known to those looking for nude beaches, which means they're pretty exclusive and aren't too crowded.

Dont be a fool, it is illegal in India and you risk arrest or worse being harassed by locals. Go to a country where they have designated nude beaches instead.

People in India are very conservative and there is little or no beach culture. Local girls wont even wear a bikini and move around fully clothed on beaches at Goa so you can imagine what its like. People stare are women in bikinis till their necks start hurting.

They don't exist. You may hear about some private nude beach or some secluded beach where nudity is seen, but you will not find anything resembling a proper nude beach in India. Apart from it being illegal, it is also not culturally proper in Indian context. I wish there was a few proper nude beaches in India, but that's how it is now.

Officially of course there are no such beaches.Howerver there are many hidden coves in many secluded beach stetches where nude sunbathing is possible.

With no malice intention, one of my dreams is to see a nude beach or nude camp. Now I understand that nudity in India is related to religious rites or tradition. And that would be interesting too since I also like a cultural trip on religion. I had mingled with the monks in Thailand and it’s a great experience to talk to them. Maybe in India, I would also be able to interview some religious elders for advice on life.
