Pangong Tso Accommodation

I am from Delhi and will be going to Leh for a holiday. One of the stops in Ladakh will be Pangong Tso and I wish to spend a couple of days there, especially being by the lake.

I would like to know what accommodation options are available in Pangong Tso?

Please provide information about all the available options.

There are two main types of accommodation options near Pangong Tso: tents and fixed structures (camps with cottages or huts). Here's a breakdown of what you can expect:
  • Tents: This is the most common type of accommodation near Pangong Tso. Camps typically consist of rows of tents, with each tent comfortably sleeping two to four people. Most tents will have basic amenities like beds, bedding, and shared bathrooms with running water. Some higher-end camps may offer attached bathrooms with western toilets. The advantage of staying in a tent is that you'll be right next to the lake and will experience the tranquility of the place at night. Keep in mind that nights at Pangong Tso can get very cold, so make sure to pack thermals and warm sleeping bags.
  • Camps with cottages/huts: There are a few camps that offer fixed structures like cottages or huts made of wood or stone. These offer more amenities than tents, such as attached bathrooms with western toilets and hot showers. They may also have heating, which can be a lifesaver in the cold Ladakhi nights. The downside is that these tend to be more expensive than tents and may not be located right on the lakeshore.

Here are some additional things to consider when choosing your accommodation in Pangong Tso:

  • Budget: Tents are generally the most budget-friendly option, while camps with cottages/huts will be more expensive.
  • Amenities: Consider what amenities are important to you, such as attached bathrooms, hot showers, and heating.
  • Location: Some camps are located directly on the lakeshore, while others are located a short distance away. If being right on the lake is important to you, be sure to choose a camp accordingly.
  • Season: Pangong Tso is closed to tourists during the winter months due to heavy snowfall. The tourist season typically runs from April to October.

If you're planning to stay near Pangong Tso in 2025, there are plenty of great options, from lake-facing campsites to comfortable cottages and homestays in nearby villages.

❄️ Things to Consider Before Booking:

✅ Best Time to Visit: May to September (after this, temperatures drop drastically, and some camps close).
✅ Facilities to Check: Not all places have running hot water, so confirm in advance. Power supply can also be limited.
✅ Advance Booking Recommended: Especially if you’re visiting in peak season, as accommodations near the lake fill up fast.
✅ Tent vs. Cottage: Tents are great for the adventure vibe, but wooden cottages or homestays are warmer and more comfortable at night.

Final Thoughts

If you prefer comfort & warmth, go for cottages or homestays. If you want a raw adventure experience, pick a lake-facing camp. Either way, waking up to the sunrise over Pangong Tso is a magical experience you won’t forget!
