What first inspired you to travel to India?

For me, probably the first time I became really interested in India specifically was when I would watch Survivor. It's not really a traditional way of learning about the country, but it got me thinking about the landscape, the animals, and the food more, and I loved all the scenery they would show.

After that, I wanted to learn more about India. I have actively sought to befriend Indian people I come across as well because I like learning about the culture. It's fun to talk to people from different countries.

I have always had a desire to travel as much as possible, anywhere, but that is how I got the bug for India. A little of an odd start, maybe. How did you get interested?

I've always loved everything Indian. From the food, the clothes and the music and movies to the interesting people and their interesting culture. I always wanted to learn more and experience some of that for myself first hand. Oh and one of my closest friends is from Dubai and he used to tell us the most amazing stories about the different places there.

I didn't know India hosted Survivor. Which season was it and which part of the country were they in? It is a bit of an unusual way to learn about the country for sure. I wonder how India is portrayed in the show.

Bollywood. Bollywood is the only reason. I once watched a Bollywood movie while tv surfing and I got hooked on the sights and sounds. After that I began experimenting with food more and ate in Indian restaurants and I loved the rotis and currys so much. I've also wanted to see the Ganges as well due to its rich history but they really let go of the river now.

@rootle, it was actually an Indian version of the American TV show. It was started in 2012, and I'm not sure if it's actually still running. There may have only been one season, but I am not sure. It was available to watch on Star Plus in the US for some time. I got into it in between seasons of the US show when I was wanting something else to watch.

I can't remember the name, but I also saw a reality show that had India as one of their locations. I love traveling and just want to go everywhere. The TV shows make India look really neat as far as the clothes, food, and landmarks go. I like new experiences, and going from the U.S. to India would definitely be a different experience.

Oh right yeah, I have heard of this. I think I may have even watched a bit of it. I think in the Indian one they got a bunch of rich celebrities to do it. One of my friends is obsessed with Survivor and I remember him talking about it as well.

I personally wanted to go to the north Indian hill stations after seeing a couple of them in lonely planet and that is what got me going.

Since then I only pick hill stations for my travel and some of the ones which I have visited till now are:

• Shimla
• Nanitaal
• Kausani
• Bhimtaal
• Dalhousie
• Ooty
• Coorg

I plan on covering atleast 3 more in the coming 12 months but this time from southern India. The hills and the Himalayas were my inspiration to explore India.
