Where to go for camel safari, Jaisalmer or Bikaner?

Hi

My girlfriend spoke to some of her friends and they have suggested her not to miss camel safari in Rajasthan, and they have suggested Bikaner and Jaisalmer for the same. What do you think, which place is better for camel safari? According to me Bikaner doesn't attract many tourists, so I am not very confident about it, but Jaisalmer is very far from Delhi so I do not wish to travel for long hours too. Any information about camel safari and these cities would be nice.
 
The distance from Delhi to Jaisalmer is 12 hours and distance from Delhi to Bikaner is 8 hours, so there is quite a difference. Out of both the locations I think that Jaisalmer is better but as you said you don't want to travel for long hours then your only choice is Bikaner.
 
Experience wise both the locations are the same, but it would be better if you go Jaisalmer as apart from camel safari there is other things to do as well.

The distance between Delhi and Bikaner is about 446.7 kms or about 8 to 9 hours of travel time. The distance between Delhi and Jaisalmer is about 785 kms or about 13 to 14 hours of travel time. So when it comes to distance, Bikaner is definitely a winner.

Now, let's talk about commercialisation. Of course, Jaisalmer is more commercialised which means it has its advantages and disadvantages. An advantage of being commercialised is that there's lots of accommodations and tour agencies you can choose from. You can even opt for luxury desert camps here. There's also lots of public bathrooms within the area. The downside? Well, there's more trash, rubbish and scammers as well.

When it comes to Bikaner, it's less commercialised. The advantage of that is there's not much tourists around the area and you can have it all to yourself. However, you won't find as many accommodations and tour agencies as well.

Now, let's talk about the desert appearance-wise. Jaisalmer has more area to explore and the desert here is quite beautiful. The famous Sam Sand Dunes are also here. There's little to no vegetation in here especially in the deeper part of the desert. Bikaner also has some stunning views however, you can find more vegetation here. It depends on where your guide takes you but nearer to the village, you can still find many vegetations.

Activity-wise, you'll find that Jaisalmer has more to offer. And even the famous Desert Festival in February happens here. Bikaner has less of this and that's one of the downsides of visiting the place.

It's up to you what you will choose. Remember though, you can always ask your guide to take you to the less touristy areas in Jaisalmer. This way, you can avoid the crowds. Otherwise, if you would like to avoid the other downsides of Jaisalmer, then go for Bikaner.
