Bangalore to Goa Train

We are a group of 6 friends who are planning for a trip to Goa from Bangalore. None of us own a vehicle, so our transportation option is limited to either hiring a taxi or using the public transport.

We have already checked with a few taxi operators, but they are asking way too much money. Surprisingly, air fare is coming cheaper than the taxi service, but still it is well over our modest budget. We can't afford to spend so much on transportation alone.

That leaves us with the option of choosing between either bus or train. Out of the two, we would prefer the train service. Long distance bus journeys are really tiresome and that would be our last option if we can't find accommodation in one of the Bangalore to Goa trains.

I would like to know -

Is there any direct train from Bangalore to Goa?
If yes, then which are the trains and what are the departure/arrival timings?
How long does the journey take?

Please let us known the train numbers and timings. Also kindly share your travel experience if you have been to Goa from Bangalore by train.

Currently there are three trains that run from Bangalore to Goa (Yesvantpur to Vasco to be precise). Only one of the three originates from Yesvantpur, while the remaining two start from other places. Here's the list of Bangalore to Goa trains with their scheduled departure and arrival timings -

1. Yesvantpur-Vasco Express (Train No 17309) - Operates on Tuesday and Sunday. Departs from Yesvantpur (YPR) at 2:30 PM and arrives in Vasco da Gama (VSG) at 6:00 AM the following day. Travel time is 15 hours and 30 minutes.

2. Chennai Central-Vasco Express (Train No 17311) - Weekly train that operates on Friday. Departs from Yesvantpur at 9:55 PM and arrives in Vasco at 1:00 PM on the next day. Travel time is 15 hours and 05 minutes.

3. Vellankanni-Vasco Express (Train No 17316) - Weekly train that runs on Wednesday. Timings are the same as the first one.

Yes, there are direct trains from Bangalore to Goa.

If yes, then which are the trains and what are the departure/arrival timings?

The trains starting from Bangalore:

• Train No. 02683, Yesvantpur Junction Vasco Da Gama Superfast Express. It departs at Yesvantpur Junction at 22:30 pm. It arrives in Madgaon at 11:55 am.

• Train No. 17309, Yesvantpur Junction Vasco Express. It departs at Yesvantpur Junction at 14:45 pm. It arrives in Madgaon at 5:15 am.

The trains just passing by Bangalore:

• Train No. 17603, Kcg Yesvantpur Junction Express. It departs at Yesvantpur Junction at 00:00 am. It arrives in Madgaon at 13:55 pm.

• Train No. 17311, Chennai Central Vasco Express. It departs at Krishnarajapurm at 20:10 pm. It arrives in Madgaon at 11:55 am.

• Train No. 07316, Vellankanni Vasco Da Gama Express. It departs at Krishnarajapurm at 7:32 am. It arrives in Madgaon at 1:30 am.

How long does the journey take?

It can take anywhere between 13 to 17 hours.
