Bringing Pets Along To India

During my trip I plan on bringing my dog with me. I have a large Rottweiler and am wondering if people are friendly to dogs in Delhi? No, I cannot leave him at home so that's not even an option at this juncture. What fees should I expect with the airline ? Are there hotels that accommodate large dogs? How do people feel about dogs? Are there any religious customs about dogs? Thank you!!

Hi Faye1232212. My advise to you is that the money that you are thinking of investing to take your pet with you on the trip, that you put better use to it by paying someone you know to take care of him. Another solution is that you place him in a doggie hotel in your own town before your trip. I'm a dog and cat owner myself, I wanted to take both my pets with me to New Delhi for a week, and after researching about the matter 2 years ago, I concluded that it is easier to get pets onto US soil than to India. Leaving the doggie at home will save you a ton of headaches.

As stated by previous commenters getting your dog through customs will be quite a stretch unless you plan to transfer or migrate. I suggest you leave your dog to a family member, a trusted friends or a dog-friendly hotel or service in your area. Animals are great but unless you have a lot of money or have a private jet you're bound to leave them at home for many reasons. Did your dog get the right shots? Is he rabies-free? Is he sick or had previous surgery within the past six months? Those are the kinds of questions you have to deal with along with getting a dog or breeder's liscense.
